Google is always asking my about my use, and frequently pays me (via Google Rewards) to provide answers to those questions. So, I use it (Google Assistant) all the time. This means that the door is fully open by the time I get to it and I can pull right in without stopping and waiting. Its suuuper handy because I can get my garage door to start opening before I'm close enough the house to use the standard push-button opener. I have compatibile garage door opener, so every time I come home its, "hey Google, open the garage door" on my phone which is already running Google Maps with Google Assistant listening. I sometimes ask it travel times to a location, which it then automatically forwards directions to my phone with, which is great to have ready when I get in my car. I dont do it often, but I've made phone calls (non-video) from it as well. When I cant find my cat, I will say "hey Google, show me the kitty cam" from a home hub. I have a cat bed under my bed with a camera that I call "the kitty cam".

I can also interact with my doorbell cam. I have video cameras, so I ask it to show me different cameras at different times. I ask it to do math and various conversions on occasion. Sometimes I'm lazy and forget to turn out the lights so it's nice to yell at it from bed to turn shit off. Same with auto-scheduling LED lights behind my TV. I have a big floor lamp behind my monitors and desk with a hard-to-reach switch and it is so useful to tell Google to turn it on.
#GOOGLE TIMER 80 MINUTES PLUS#
Plus random stuff like "what does a panda sound like" that's always fun.Įdit: oh yeah I forgot about all the internet of things functionality. Timer is too bleepy and tends to ignore me when I yell at it to stop. I prefer the remind me feature over the timer and use it for things like boiling water or laundry. I also have it remind me to check my frigates at the time they're due back to my freighter in No Man's Sky.

When I'm playing Outer Wilds, I tell it to remind me in 20 minutes that I'm gonna die. I actually have a ton of lists and like this feature a lot.

I had a "Thank you card" list in December that I'd rattle off names whenever I opened the mail and found a card from a distant relative. Since I also use Google Keep, I tell it to "add eggs to Fresh list" (my Amazon Fresh grocery list I save in Google Keep) or whatever that comes to mind. When it goes to random on song radio, "I like this song" (saves to my Liked Songs playlist), "What song is this", "What album is this from", "Play ", etc. Then I just tell it random shit to play on Spotify all day. I work from home, so I tell it to play the news, which is also something I pre-selected from the various sources available. My alarm wakes me up with my chosen Spotify playlist, tells me the weather, reminds me to charge my phone if it's below 30%, and gives me my Google Calendar events of the day.
